Reading the Qur’an
How to Build a Daily Qur’an Habit That Lasts
A realistic routine you can keep, rather than an ambitious one you abandon.

Many people begin an ambitious Qur’an schedule and abandon it after a few days. A stronger approach is to begin with an amount that can be maintained.
Begin small and remain consistent
The Prophet ﷺ taught that the deeds most loved by Allah are those performed regularly, even when they are small.
Start with five or ten minutes a day. Once the habit becomes stable, increase it gradually. The calm reader saves your place, so you can always continue exactly where you stopped.
Attach Qur’an to an existing routine
Choose a reliable time:
- After Fajr.
- Before leaving for school or work.
- After one of the daily prayers.
- Before sleeping.
- During a regular break.
Connecting recitation to something you already do makes the habit easier to remember. If you prefer reading by the page, the Muṣḥaf view lets you turn pages one at a time.
Read slowly
The Qur’an instructs believers to recite in a measured and deliberate manner. Finishing many pages is not more important than reading carefully.
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا
Reflect upon one message
Sūrah Ṣād describes the Qur’an as a blessed Book revealed so that people may reflect upon its verses and receive its reminders.
After reading, ask:
- What does this passage teach me about Allah?
- Is there a command I should follow?
- Is there a behaviour I should avoid?
- What can I apply today?
Do not quit because reading is difficult
The Prophet ﷺ taught that the person who struggles and falters while reading the Qur’an receives two rewards. Difficulty is therefore not a reason for embarrassment or surrender.
Your daily minimum could be one page, five verses or ten minutes. On energetic days, read more — but protect the minimum that keeps your relationship with the Qur’an alive.
